Pavilion House

We undertook an extensive renovation to this original 1940’s beachside cottage.

Designed by Interior Designer, Nina Maya, the brief was to create a beachside haven for our clients who usually reside in the city.

When you enter the home, you are immediately transported to a tropical oasis that is tranquil and relaxing. Our clients wanted a space where they felt like they were on holidays and wanted to instill a feeling of serenity, in connection with the local landscape. This was achieved through extensive landscaping that surrounds the heated pool, the construction of a luxury outdoor bathroom, circular fire place, in-built alfresco dining area, sauna and water features that make this space feel like you could be anywhere in the world.

Moving into the home, the open plan, minimalist design allows each room to flow and is bathed in natural sunlight which was achieved through the use of glass bi-fold doors and skylights that were installed in the main living area. One of the features that we love is how the lighting reflects the pool in the main living area, giving the illusion of water dancing on the walls.

Whilst the house uses a neutral colour palette, it does not lack in sophistication. Nina has been able to create an understated elegance through the use of micro-cement wall and floor finishes, custom made lighting from local artisans, locally commissioned artwork and a custom made curved marble benchtop that have been carefully selected and curated for each room within the house.

There were some unique challenges with the project being that we had to install custom made furniture i.e. the coffee table, dining table and bath that were carved out of solid stone. Some of these items weighed in at over 1 ton each. We had to work closely with our engineer to ensure that the floor was able to take such a significant load, along with organise two cranes to crane the furniture into position. Although challenging at the time the end result is stunning.

We loved working on this project and feel that we have delivered a home that allows our clients a place to come and relax with all the comforts of a 5-star resort.

“We usually reside in the city where we lead an extremely busy life. It was important to us that we created a space that instilled a feeling of serenity in connection with the natural surrounds and beachside landscape. What we love most about this home, is that when you enter, you immediately feel like you could be transported to anywhere in the world. Entertaining our friends and family is important to us and one of our favourite features of the home is the open plan alfresco style living. Through the use of natural raw material complimented by custom made artwork, marble and lighting each space is unique and brings a sense of sophisticated elegance. The team at Customconstruction were on board with my vision and delivered a project that exceeded our expectations.

We have enjoyed living here so much that it is now our primary residence”.
